Today the mine is home to over 250,000 migratory bats and the area is designated by the Colorado Division of Wildlife as a Natural Area. Although the mine itself is closed due to wildlife conservation efforts, the outside area is frequented by wildlife enthusiasts who are interested in getting a peak at the large bat gathering that calls the mine home.
