Splashland

Splashland Hot Springs in Alamosa has a geothermal outdoor swimming pool that has been around since 1955 and is an important part of Alamosa’s history.  Now remodeled and upgraded with a concession stand, this natural hot spring is a great place to take the family to enjoy a summer afternoon. Splashland is open seasonally, and is located 1 mile north of Alamosa on Highway 17.  The water enters the pool at 102°F year-round with average temperatures ranging 88-96°F pool wide. This family-friendly pool has three water slides, a diving board and lap lanes.  There are also water aerobics classes, parent-tot classes, swimming lessons and water therapy offered.   

Sand Dunes Recreation

Sand Dunes Recreation is open year-round hot spring, but it is so much more! During the early 1930's hot water was struck near Hooper while drillers were exploring for oil.  The hot well water enters the 150,000 gallon pool at 118°F and the family pool's temperature is maintained between 98°F and 102°F, depending on the season. The adjoining 24-person therapy pool stays a consistent 108°F to 109°F.  The pool offers Colorado's best snack bar, The Mile Deep Grille.  Family fun, relaxation and rejuvenation, is just 20 miles from Alamosa! In 2015, the adults-only Greenhouse was built.  It includes four additional soaking pools, all at different temperatures, a ten-person sauna and their libation station, The Steel Box Bar.  Monday night is Cosmic Night with a discount for college and high school students, Tuesday is Family Night.  Sand Dunes Recreation offers swimming lessons, yoga in the Greenhouse, RV and tent sites, cabin rentals and sand board rentals.   There's nothing quite unwinding in this beautiful oasis. 

Joyful Journey Hot Springs

Joyful Journey Hot Springs is a quiet, peaceful spa retreat located at the northern gateway to the San Luis Valley is a favorite destination for the healing, relaxing effect of natural hot water under the clear skies of the valley.  They offer three outdoor tiled geothermal soaking pools, surrounded by decks and magnificent panoramic views.  Water rises from the travertine springs at between 120°F and 145°F, however, the pools are maintained between 98°F and 108°F.  The water is sodium bicarbonate type with significant levels of boron, calcium, lithium and magnesium, as well as other beneficial minerals.  You can schedule a massage, a facial or take a yoga class while you are visiting.  The hot springs are located about 45 minutes north of Alamosa.  Joyful Journey offers accommodations, including hotel rooms, native tipis, RV and camp sites and yurts (round, canvas buildings).  

Valley View Hot Springs

Valley View Hot Springs is operated by the Orient Land Trust, an organization dedicated to natural resource preservation.  This mountainside paradise is the most natural of the hot springs, with river rock creating pools of hot water right in the river itself.  Walk along the wilderness trails, and take a break to soak in the body-temperature soaking ponds along the way.  There is also a chlorine-free, spring-fed swimming pool and geothermally and hydroelectrically-heated hot tub and sauna.  It is a unique place be completely immersed in nature, as the entire grounds are clothing optional. Valley View offers all-season camping and rustic accommodations, and is located in an area with a diverse ecosystem rich in wildlife, birds and plant life.  250,000 Brazilian Free-Tail Bats call the Orient Mine home every summer, in addition to many other species of bats that live in the San Luis Valley year-round.  Their outflight can be viewed by taking a short hike up to the mine, and bat hike tours are offered.
