Sand Dunes Recreation and the Green House
This facility has been a local staple and a visitors must in the area for more than 20 years. Hot water was struck by oil drillers in the early 1930’s and used recreationally by locals as an unofficial pool location, known by locals as the “Hooper Pool” until 1978. The facility was not developed into the facility known as “Sand Dunes Recreation” until August of 1995. Between 1978 and 1995, the pool was used to raise catfish for a time before sitting empty and unused for roughly 10 years. In the summer of 1995, Sand Dunes Recreation was born. Early visitors to the location swam in a dirt covered board pool until later renovations included cement floors, mimicking what it looks like today.
Since then, it has turned into a location that draws visitors from all over the country with their beautiful location and pristine geothermal waters! Open 6 days a week (closed Thursdays for cleaning, weekly) and operating year-round, making any season the best time to visit. What can you look forward to when visiting this family friendly oasis? Starting with the main part of the facility housing a 50x100 family pool, a baby pool perfect for your little ones, and a 25 person therapy pool. The family and baby pool sit at a comfortable 98 degrees while the therapy pool sits between 105-107 degrees. One cannot forget about the 24 foot water slide that leads to a small stone pool and runs directly into the sandy creek! Perfect for the kids to play, catch minnows, and have an experience they won’t soon forget. Feed the entire family on site at the Mile Deep Grille and explore the gift shop for swimsuits, jewelry, and various water toy rentals! Did you bring your own lunch and need a place to cook and enjoy it? Find picnic tables and charcoal grills in the grassy area next to the family pool. After lunch, enjoy a nice game of volleyball or basketball on one of the courts also located by the grassy area of the facility.
Are you on an all adult trip or are your kiddos 21 and older? The Greenhouse at Sand Dunes Recreation is perfect for you. This 21 and up location brings a new definition to a tropical oasis-practically in the middle of nowhere. Take in 10,000 square feet of tropical plants surrounding 4 pools ranging from 98-111 degrees. Unwind in the sauna or enjoy delicious upscale small plate meals from the Steel Box Bar in this breathtaking all adult atmosphere.
