We love our local National Park, and every April, we dedicate the month to celebrating Great Sand Dunes—a place of adventure, wonder, and natural beauty. With National Parks Week (April 22-30) as the centerpiece, it’s the perfect time to show our appreciation. You’ll find Sand Dunes themed specials, and special offers at restaurants, shops, and attractions throughout Alamosa. You can show your love for the Great Sand Dunes by participating in the Show Your Love Stewardship Challenge, and even earn rewards just by taking action to protect and preserve our National Park.
Visit the Welcome Center anytime in April for free swag and a chance to win a gift voucher to spend locally during your stay. Then, get outside and explore, experience, and celebrate Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve!
Discover the Park
The Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is one of Colorado’s four National Parks and is located conveniently near Alamosa in the Mystic San Luis Valley. The park contains the tallest sand dunes in North America and its vast dune field covers more than 30 sq. miles! The park is further distinguished by its unique biological diversity, as visitors can explore wetlands, forests, tundra, and more ecosystems all within a single afternoon. This April, celebrate Great Sand Dunes National Park by supporting local businesses that share our love for this incredible place! Enjoy Great Sand Dunes Specials All Month Long at participating locations. Many local businesses are offering special promotions throughout April to celebrate our National Park. Visit the Colorado Welcome Center (610 State Ave) to learn more about the celebration and find out how you can receive a voucher in person.
Show The Love Stewardship Challenge
As the gateway to Great Sand Dunes, we recognize the importance of protecting our public lands. That’s why this year, we invite you to take part in the We Love Our National Park Stewardship Challenge—a month-long initiative promoting responsible travel and conservation. Through simple actions like staying on trails, practicing Care for Colorado Leave No Trace principles, you’ll help preserve this incredible landscape for future generations.

Make a difference in Great Sand Dunes National Park and the Alamosa community by completing simple stewardship actions. Track your progress, earn rewards, and show your commitment to responsible tourism.
How It Works:
1. Take the Stewardship Pledge
Pledge to respect nature, honor the night sky, practice kindness, give back, and share the message of stewardship. Sign the pledge in person at the Welcome Center to receive an exclusive sticker or button. Sign the pledge digitally to show your support from anywhere (no physical items included).
2. Get Your Stewardship Passport
Pick up a physical passport at the Colorado Welcome Center (610 State Ave) or download a digital version from this page. Complete stewardship actions and check them off as you go!
3. Complete Stewardship Actions
Engage in simple, impactful actions both in the park and around the community.
4. Share Your Actions & Inspire Others
Tag @VisitAlamosa and use #WeHeartOurNationalPark + #VisitAlamosa when posting photos or videos of your stewardship activities.

5. Earn Rewards!
Complete and track your actions in the Stewardship Passport. Snap photos of your efforts to earn fun prizes like stickers, buttons, reusable water bottles, and even a chance to win a pass to Great Sand Dunes National Park!
