ROOTS by Blessed
Though ROOTS is the newest addition to the Alamosa coffee house scene, it has been rooted in the community since 2004. The formerly known Blessed Brews Coffee Shop was originally founded Dee Cooley. The business was taken over by her daughters Lacey and Marcie 2018. The business received a new name and location with the help of owner Lacey Cooley in 2023 when they made their way to 721 Main Street marking their grand opening in April of 2023. Though she and her sister were great as business partners, between having kids and their lives going in different directions, the pair decided to launch sister stores aiming to serve a widespread market dividing and conquering. Marcie, having a passion for events and mobile coffee launched the Fuel by blessed mobile location and caters to local schools, businesses, and local events as well as outside events in Salidas and Santa Fe! Both locations are still under the "Blessed Brews" umbrella keeping the family business alive, but able to take their own businesses and mark them with their own unique twist. Between Dee, Lacey, and Marcie, Blessed Brews has been making its mark and serving up smiles for nearly 20 years in the Alamosa community!
ROOTS offers more than just coffee, one can find grab-and-go options such as Boomtown burritos, made in Del Norte, CO, sweets like gourmet donuts, cinnamon rolls, and scones made by The Ruby Rose in Hooper, CO, as well as cookies and biscotti made by Seattle's Favorite Bakery in Kent, Washington. Branch out from coffee beverages and try a customer favorite: the Red Bull Mocktail: John Wayne. They offer many flavor combinations for the beverage and even offer sugar-free options! In talking with Lacey and asking her what makes her coffee house special she said, "We strive for a relaxing, local vibe for people to enjoy the outside seating area and thoroughly enjoy their coffee experience. We feel that the days are filled with so much rushing around, so we want people to relax and really enjoy the moment and their time with us. We offer gift cards, plants, mugs, candles, handmade pottery by Kate Martinez/Studio Pensativa in Del Norte, handmade knits by a local knitting group "The Dirty Knitters," our signature chocolate-covered espresso beans, and much more. We want to offer a selection of gifts and local handmade items that are unique and one of a kind. At Roots by Blessed it is our mission to serve our community the best products and to make your coffee experience heavenly. We do this by staying grounded in the Word while keeping open minds and humble hearts. -Hebrews 6:10" With so much local love encapsulated into a relaxing and welcoming environment, it is easy to see why this coffee house needs to be on your list! The Sanctuary
Excited to bring a fresh perspective to Alamosa of what a coffee house can be, Denise Vigil and Nealson Vialpando were thrilled to bring to life The Sanctuary in June of 2022. This unique location can be found at 607 Fourth Street just off Main. Offering hand-crafted coffee, cocktails, and lunch, this eye-catching coffee stop is calling your name. We talked to owner Denise about her stunning location and she had so much to offer. In asking where she got the idea for the Sanctuary, she said "I just knew it. It has been something I had wanted to do for a long time. When the property was bought, I knew that this side would be the perfect location for coffee, wine, and cocktails. I wanted it to be comfortable and classy, but also a place for everyone. The idea came from a love for the speakeasy vibe. I hear a lot from people that it reminds them of a speakeasy. We see a lot of professionals and students and it ends up being a safe place for people to come for interviews, first dates, and more. It is quiet, unlike a sports bar. It is perfect for everyone. Yes, we offer cocktails, but if you don't drink, we offer coffee. It is not only somewhere you can come with friends, but somewhere you can bring your kids and feel comfortable doing so."
The couple has aimed to make their location stand out and make a statement, adding to the already unique offerings of Alamosa's historic Downtown by keeping many of the original features of the old church in which they are located. Denise was asked what made her location different from others and she said, " There is so much. First and most obvious, is the location itself. Location and architecture are different from anywhere else, even in the city. The vibe is different, comfortable, safe, but fun! It's a great location, great parking, probably the best parking option of the coffee houses. We are surrounded by 3 lots plus street parking. Plus we have an amazing enclosed patio for the summer months for customers to enjoy! We offer a menu exclusive to the sanctuary for lunch, but also open for dinner next door. People can come for pre or post-dinner cocktails! We have the ability to serve a full bar including adult coffee beverages. It really is a good crossover. We use local ingredients when we can with all of our lamb coming from Colorado use of the seasonal items found at the Alamosa Farmers Market." The Sanctuary recently began offering Sand Dunes merchandise available for purchase on site including water bottles and t-shirts. One can also purchase branded tee shirts as well with all of the branded merchandise being printed locally. This location is calling your name and is a stop you have to add to your next Downtown adventure. You can find more information about this unique gem on their website at the link above.
